History
& Achievements :
- Private John Enoch Hammond arrived
in Perth on the "Java" from Hobart, arriving in
Perth on the 24th February, 1847. He was discharged
on the 1st August, 1850.
He must
have met Hannah Eliza Clarkson (nee Leeder), whose
husband had not been heard of since he left Perth for the
Goldfields in Ballarat. They had three children
prior to their marriage on 7th October, 1858, and one
thereafter. They lived in Perth on the
Waterfront, then for some time on Hannah's families farm
near Mongers Lake (now known as Leederville) Pinjarra and
Northam, where he died on the 12th September, 1892.
Over the years he had worked as a Police Constable,
Assistant Surveyor, gardener, brickmaker and no doubt
anything else that he could do. Hannah already had
7 children to her first husband.
