History
& Achievements :
- Jonathon Cason was a policeman in
Ballarat between 1853 & 1857 and his usual
occupation prior to this was 'soldier'. Jonathon
Cason first settled in Carngham near Ballarat, after
being a policeman he was a farmer (his wife
Christina Robbs family were already settled here and were
farmers) so I'm assuming he took on the family task and
became a farmer. After being a farmer he became a
storekeeper in Carngham (family word of mouth) then I
have again family word of mouth that he lived in Menzies
Creek Victoria and then have records from the Sands &
McDougall Directory that he had a produce store at
Normanby Street Moonee Ponds. The Essendon Historical
Society and they have a "Percy Judd' real estate
record saying that he owned the house at Cowper Street
North Essendon Vic. He died aged 84 in 1905 at North Essendon Vic and is
buried at the Springvale Cemetery. I have tracked down a lot of distant
cousins etc and they all seem to think he came from India
to Australia. Jonathon was a police officer on duty
at the Eureka Stockade.
