This Regiment began its military term in 1688 in Kent but was known only as the Colonel Sir Edward Hale's Regiment of Foot. The following is a history of many name changes.

1920...... 14th West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales Own )
1958.......Merged with East Yorkshire Regiment and became The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire
Some publications have stated the 1st Battalion served in Australia, and in fact a lot of the record we came across stated "Soldiers of the 1st Battalion" but we have been able to find records that states the 2nd Battalion served in Australia. We also note that no mention at this time as been found of the 3rd Battalion. even though this Battalion did exist.
