LaxtonChapel
The Old Church or Chapel at Laxton in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

This painting hangs in the present Church. A portion of the old Chapel still remains in the Churchyard, and here, inside, can be found memorials to Christopher Bayles of Laxton who died 1744, his daughter Elizabeth Bayles, also died 1744, his son Christopher who died 1782, and his daughter Barbara Bayles who married her first cousin John Wastell of Doncaster, and died in 1794.

Christopher Bayles "of Laxton" who died in 1744, was a merchant in Kingston upon Hull. He was Chamberlain there in 1714, and Sheriff in 1717. After the death of his wife Elizabeth, Christopher married Jane MOWLD, the widow of Robert MASON. They had a daughter Jane, born in 1734, who married in 1757 Bethel ROBINSON. It is curious that Christopher Bayles' will, dated 1744, makes no mention of his second wife Jane, believed not to have died until 1756, nor of their daughter Jane, then aged about 10 years.
