To: [email protected] ----Early Turkish Photo Cc: [email protected]

The photo is of the great house of Cheleby Yorgaki, once the distinguished merchant of the Imperial Palace of Turkey. It was located in Babek, on the Bosphorus, Constantinople, now Istanbul. It is believed the photo was taken to justify the purchase of the house to the ABCFM. The American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. They moved into the building Nov. 4th,1843. The image is in the collection of ABCFM photos that reside at Andover Newton Theological Institute in Newton, MA. It is a quarter plate Daguerreotype. The is also a quarter plate of Cyrius Hamlin, and another Dag. of two or three Armenians who were connected with the Seminary. The building and Cyrus Hamlin were the beginnings of Roberts College in Constatinople/Istanbul.
