FLOTUS (1797-1801)
Her father was the Rev. William Smith,
for forty years a congregational clergyman of Weymouth.
She was the wife of President
John Adams ¤,
to whom she was married Oct. 25, 1764.
She was endowed with intellectual gifts, tact, and practical knowledge,
and eminently qualified to be the companion of her husband;
and was also an inspiration to her gifted son, Quincy. ¤
She is known to literature by her entertaining Letters,
edited by her grandson,
Charles Francis Adams ¤.
She died Oct. 28, 1818, in Quincy, Mass.
