Contents: |
Took part in the expeditions to Scotland (1639-1640); While imprisoned in Westminster Gatehouse (1642) for presenting the Kentish petition in the King's favor, wrote To Althea, from Prison:
Stone walls doe not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage
He fought the Spanish on behalf of the French at Dunkerque (1646); On return, was imprisoned again (1648).
Lovelace is considered the quintessential Cavalier
for his combined military prowess and graceful poetry.
