The above list is of the taxable persons who actually lived in Hanover township, so far as is known, at the time of the 1830 assessment.  It includes 184 persons, including 13 single freemen.  The total valuation was $70,737, and included 125 houses, 115 horses, 74 oxen, and 294 cows.  The U.S. census this year showed a total of 1,173 inhabitants.

Hanover township at this time included all the country back of it and Wilkes-Barre, to the Lehigh River, thus including all that was later called Hanover, Wright, Bear Creek, Denison, and Foster townships, and White Haven borough [in 1885].

As of 1885, only four of these persons still lived within the old boundaries of Hanover, ie. John A. CAREY (Ashley), Daniel FREDERICK (Newtown), Charles GARRINGER (Nanticoke), and John SORBER (South District - Hogback).  Most of the rest either had died or had moved to other places.
