Most persons investigating the name of Bowen have heard of Richard Bowen of Rehoboth Ma., Griffith and Moses Bowen through to Brothers William and Reese Bowen as well as the other Bowens' of Virgina and the middle new river settlements. It is often told that Bowen clans arrived in Pennsylvania, Rhose Island,
Massachusetts and New Jersey. The Bowen clan then migrated to other parts of America including Kentucky, Virgina, Tennessee, North and South Carolina. As America expanded so did the territory covered by the adventurous Bowens. Bowens help settle America, fought in the battle for American independence, some fought to preserve the rule of the king and were loyalists to the crown of England. Bowens fought in the war of 1812, various Indian and frontier wars. Bowens served as statesman and politicians. Bowens ventured into the wilds of the undiscovered territories and as they became crowded some continued with the expansion west into Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and Missouri and beyond. The story of the Bowen clan is the story of America, the search for freedom and the pursuit of happiness that continues to this day.
