| Andrew was part of Stephen F. Austins third colony and received his first land grant May 28, 1831. he was the son of parents of wealth and had been given a good education. He was a trader of land, slaves and horses, and established a stagecoach line from Houston to Egypt on July 22, 1839. It was said that Major Northington "kept an open house, had a fine voice, a quick warm imagination, and was a brilliant talker". Andrew brought his two eldest children to Texas with him, Mentor and Rachel Ann, their mother, Priscilla Dawson had died before the family moved to Texas. Andrew was married four times, 1st wife, Zella Stevenson (m.6/1/1861), 2nd wife, Priscilla Dawson (m.3/26/1820), 3rd wife, Eliza George (m.7/16/1835) and 4th wife, Melinda. It is known that Andrew had several other children after coming to Texas. At the time of his death Major Northington had 14,208 acres, $5,567.00 in Do Notes, one wagon, five oxen, 10 head of stock, seventeen horses, five beds with furniture, one double barrel gun, one silver watch, one eight day clock and 500 bushels of corn. His only debt was a doctor bill of $200.00. As A pioneer of early Texas he lived a vigorous life, frequently exposed to the elements and at times suffered from an inadequate diet. His fourth wife Melinda died about twelve years after Andrews death and is buried next to him. |

| George was the eldest child of George Baylor Meriwether and Mamie Duncan Northington, and the grandchild of George and Jessie Northington Sr., George Jr. was only twelve years old when his mother Mamie died. His mothers sister Sadie Northington helped raise him, although he lived with his father. George Jr. was father to George Baylor Meriwether III and Mamie Duncan Meriwether. George Jr. attended West Texas Military Academy and learned the profession of Civil Engineering from his father. He worked for the Texas & New Orleans Railroad Co as a surveyor and engineer until the great depression in 1931 at which time he became involved in cattle ranching with his brother, Will. In 1941 George Jr. obtained his Registration as a Professional Engineer and worked in Houston as a Field Engineer. During WW II, he served in the army as an Engineer. In 1950 he started a surveying business in Houston. |

| George was the husband of Mamie Duncan Northington. He attended Texas A&M University and was registered in the Mechanical course 1892-93 as a Corporal in the Corps of Cadets, 1st Squadron Co. "D" 2. In 1893-94, which was his final year, he was registered as a Bachelor in Civil Engineering and was listed under "General Honors" among the graduates. He was also a 1st Sergeant in the Corps of Cadets, 1st Squadron Co. "D" 2. On May 7, 1898 George joined Troop "M", First Regiment of the Texas Calvary, U.S. Volunteers under Col. Luthur R. Harr, he was appointed Fiorst Sergeant of Troop "M". While living in Glen Flora he was a designer of cotton gins and sugar mills. George Meriwether was well known for his designs of irrigation systems that lifted water out of the Rio Grande River and distributed the water by a network of canal systems for crop irrigation. |

| Mamie was the fifth child and fourth daughter of George and Jessie Northington Sr. For most of her life Mamie suffered from what is believed to have been recurring bouts of Maleria and spent many years off and on in Colorado and in treatment. She left two young sons, George and Will at the time of her death. Mamie's sister Sadie took on the responsibility of raising the two boys. |

Sadie inherited her fathers keen business sense and increased her holdings at Egypt after the death of her father. Sadie Northington was a very social person like her mother and kept an open house for all her family and friends.
