R.H. Ragsdale a prominent stock man of Halletsville was in the city Monday looking after business interests.

Will Conkling, the funny comedian, is still with Roy E. Fox�s Lone Star Minstrels and will be here Feb. 1.

Mrs. W.L. Hall left last week for Austin to visit relatives and friends for a while, thence to Bryan to visit her son, Willis.

Bob Treat was in Dallas last week on business for the Gifford Mercantile Co.

J.T. Shaffer of Sealy was among the business visitors to Wharton Tuesday.

Mr. And Mrs. J.E. McGurire of Pledger were guests of Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Dickson Tuesday.

William and Otto Roecker, prosperous German farmers, were in from Glen Flora Saturday.

Oscar Linderhoim, the man who does things, came up from Chesterville Monday to look after business matters.

Lea Johnson, one of the old time �cow men� of Colorado county, was in the city Tuesday paying taxes.

Miss Milner Baker came up from Palacios Saturday and was the guest of Mrs. W.L. Hall.

G.C. Gifford, our popular banker, has been absent for several days on business at Dallas, Houston and Galveston.

Mr. J.W. Ellisoe has his homestead to J.E. Ray and will move to Cleveland, Texas where he will reside in the future.

S.P. Roe is agent for the Houston Live Stock Insurance Co. and will insure your horses and mules. Call on him at his meat market.

Will Zumwalt, a county convict, while trying to escape from J.C. Payne�s farm last Friday was shot in the arm by Frank Hillbolt, one of the guards.

Mrs. Laura Pledger, mother of Mrs. H.E. Cookenboo, and two grandsons, Jim and Archie Pledger came in from Salida Colo., Saturday for a few weeks visit.

Mrs. J.R. Embry, this week closed a deal for the purchase of Franks Klein�s three brick store buildings on Milam Street adjoining H. Beckers bakery. The consideration is $9,000 and the sale was made by R.A.&A.H. Armstrong.

J.O. Brown has sold his grist mill to M.L. Wooley of Richmond and the machinery will be shipped to Richmond. Mr. Brown will continue in the grain and wood business at the old stand and will make a specialty of wood and hay in car land lot. See him before buying elsewhere.

Frank May transacted business in Houston the first of the week.

Mrs. Anderson, of Eagle Lake, is guest of her daughter, Mrs. John Dennis.

Mrs. J. Phillips and Mrs. Maggie Register are visiting relatives in Beaumont.

Miss Bettie French, of Victoria is in the city on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Frank Klien.

Hal Chinn came over from Louise Sunday to spend the day with Wharton friends.

John Broman, one of El Campo's live real estate men, Sundayed in the metropolis.

Miss Olivia Peine returned from a days visit to friends in Bay City Sunday evening.

Dr. Bat Smith came up from Bay City yesterday morning and spent the day mingling with friends.

Mrs. Hugo Klien and children left for Bay City Tuesday where they will join Mr. Klein and reside temporarily.

Mrs. J. G. Barbee and daughter Mrs. C.M. Hughes, spent the first of the week in Van Vleck on a visit to friends.

A. Klahn, of Iago was a pleasant caller at the Eagle office last Friday, having figures advanced a year on his subscription.

Dr. Hugh W. Gates, of Calhoun, Ky. who has been in Wharton on a two weeks visit to relatives, left on Wednesday's train for his home.

Judge Wells Thompson and District Attorney Styles came over from Richmond Monday evening and spent Tuesday mingling with friends in Wharton.

J.H. Redwine, one of the substantial and successful farmers of the Blue Creek country, transacted business in the city Saturday and found time to make the Eagle smile.

J.E. Pierce, the jovial Matagorda county ranchman, and T.J. Poole, El Campo's genial banker, were visitors in the county seat Saturday and stopped in to jaw the editor for a minute.

Mrs. R.A. Partain, of Beeville, accompanied by her little son, Robert, spent Tuesday in Wharton as the guest of the family of J.G. Rieves. She was en route to Bay City, where she will spend the week with her husband.

H.A. Cline and L. Peine, two of the bright Masons of Wharton lodge, spent Monday night in Bay City conferring degrees for the lodge there. It can be noted as a fact that the work was well and correctly done.
