John T. Cordray

1873- 1878

Wharton County Sheriff



John T. Cordray was elected Sheriff of Wharton County on December 3, 1873; and re-elected February 15, 1876 and again November 5, 1878 and served until December 1878 when he died.

In August of 1874 Cordray was charged with neglecting his duties by permitting a prisoner to escape.The same day he was charged with Extortion as an officer which was dismissed on December 10, 1874.

He was good friends with W.S.F. Alexander and spent a lot of time at his plantation. In Mr. Alexanders journal he mentions Cordrays name many times.
