Elo Koehl and his Officers



Elo Koehl was born in Ellinger, Texas, to Eugene and Mary Koehl, the ?brother? of former Wharton County Sheriff Robert Koehl.

Married Louise Catherine December who was born near Fayetteville, Texas on November 8, 1886.

Moved to Wharton in 1919 as a business associate of J. W. Prasifka in the hardware and mercantile business.

He became deputy sheriff in Wharton County in 1932 under J.C. Willis. When Sheriff Willis died in office and his wife served out his term, Elo Koehl became her Chief Deputy and was then elected when her term was over.

He ran for office and was elected Sheriff November 6, 1934

Re-elected November 3, 1936 and served until January 1, 1939.

He later ran for County Clerk but lost. After leaving politics he was in business with the Phoenix Dairies and then insurance and real estate businesses.
