D. W. Bythewood

1882- 1884

Wharton County Sheriff




D.W.Bythewood was appointed Sheriff on November 27 1882 when Perry Clark resigned. He served until April 1884 when the office was vacated. This is not in the state records but rather in the county records.[Texas County Sheriffs Book]1

D.W. was appointed because Perry Clark who had been elected on November 7, 1882 only served 20 days as Sheriff and then resigned.His brother had served two years before Clark was elected.

D.W. Blyhewood served as a private under Captain Augustine Tomlinson in The Mathews' Rangers and is found on the Muster Rolls during the Civil War.

He was a dentist before he became a Sheriff.
