Virginia "Gin" Simmons Mortensen


Mortensen:

Virginia "Gin" Mortensen, 87 lifelong Texan died June 29, 1999. Mrs. Mortensen was the great great granddaughter of Mr. W.J.E. Heard, First Captian under General Sam Houston in the Battle of San Jacinto. The Mortensen family still maintains a portion of Captian Heard's ranch in Egypt, Texas.

Mrs. Mortensen celebrated 64 years of marriage to her husband Al Mortensen this year. Gin was a member of St Luke's United Methodist Church, and River Oaks Country Club. An avid golfer, she was past Club Champion at River Oaks Country Club and of The City Of Houston. She is survived by her husband, Alfred "Al" Mortensen; daughters Martha Middlebrook & husband Don of Wharton, Texas, Betty Matthys & husband Sherman of Antonito, Colorado; sons Harold Mortensen of Seaman, Ohio, and Bob Mortensen & wife Sue of Sugarland, Texas; companion and best friend, Jerlean Black of Houston; brother Dr. Harold M. Northington and wife Nina of Wharton, Texas; sister in law, Anita Northington; grandchildren, Don Al Middlebrook, Mike Mortensen, Laura Mortensen, Julie Williams, Russell Matthys, Wade Matthys, Melony Mortensen, Tanya Mortensen, Daniel Mortensen; 2 great grandchildren, Mike Lee Mortensen and Brittany Williams.

Friends may call on Wednesday at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons 1010 Bering Dr where the family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. for visitation.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 1, 1999, in the chapel, with Dr. James W. Moore officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Egypt Texas.
