Clarissa Beard Northington




Mrs. Clarissa Beard Northington, age 99 of Egypt, Texas died early Monday morning. December 17, 1979 one month before her 100th birthday in a Wharton Hospital. She was born January 17, 1880 in Eagle Lake, Texas to Capt. William George and Annie Rowena Webb Beard. Mrs. Northington had been a resident of Wharton County since 1898. She was an artist and poet. author of The Long White Road, a book of poems which was published twice and sold out both times, the latest being in 1978.

She attended the First United Methodist Church in Wharton Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Guy Pry officiating Interment, family cemetery in Egypt, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mentor Northington, a longtime Wharton county rancher and two daughters, Mrs. Tot N. Schwab and Mrs. Hurley (Josephine) Hust Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Rowena Monahan of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Myra White of Brady, Texas; grand-daughter, Mrs. Robert (Clara Jane) Lovell of Providence Rhode Island, a grandson, Jack Northington Schwab of Nashville, Tennessee; son in law, Paul E. Schwab, Nashville, Tennessee; a niece, Mrs. Al Mortensen of Houston and two nephews, George Northington III of Egypt, Texas and Dr. Harold Northington of Wharton, Texas; 10 great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to your favorite charity. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home, 422 North Fulton, Wharton.
