Dr. John Caldwell Calhoun "Coon" Davidson was born July 17, 1860 in Alabama to Samuel Davidson and Judith Clark Kilpatrick Davidson.

He graduated from New Orleans School of Medicine in 1886, and married Lily Carlton in 1888.

In 1890, Dr. Davidson kept two teams of horses in Wharton in order to make necessary calls on his patients, who were scattered all over the county. For a time he was a partner with Dr. Green L. Davidson, his nephew.

Lily Carlton Davidson's brother was Dr. Howard Carleton who graduated from the New Orleans School of Medicine in 1892 and practiced in El Campo.

Dr and Mrs. Davidson were the parents of five children, Howard Calhoun, Annie Clarke, Carleton Peues, George Alexander and Lily.

Dr. Davidson served on the Association of Physicians and Surgeons of Wharton County.

Dr. Davidson died on November 4, 1945.
