DR. HUGH WALKER GATES

Hugh Walker Gates was born in Calhoun, Kentucky in 1861. He was the son of Lloyd Warfield Gates and Irene Calhoun Gates.

He married Laura Schutt on October 27, 1885. He practiced medicine in Kentucky before coming to Wharton. In Wharton he also became associated with Joe A.Hamilton Jr., in the drug store business and is pictured in the store in 1914.

His sister also came to Wharton and became Mrs. George Rust.

Dr.Gates returned to Kentucky and died there on January 13, 1922.
