1882 - railroad camp, Prairie Switch, Pearl of The Prairie

1888 - 26,000 acres of land bought by Weimer Land Co.

1889 - General store

1890 - post office, first doctor

1893 - 12 businesses

1895 - independent school district established

1890 � 1898 6 religious congregations organized

1896 - first fire; first cotton gin

1900 - 130 businesses; 856 population

1901 second fire; library association organized

1901 - over 1000 cars of hay bought by EC merchants

1902 - first bank chartered

1903 - El Campo Rice Milling Co. began

1904 - 70 rice farmers, 126 pumping stations

1905 - El Campo incorporated

1906 - 2 funeral homes

1907 - Ice & Water Co. Established

1908 - train from east brought 200 homesteaders

1908 - Volunteer Fire Department chartered

1908 - Farmers Union Warehouse built

1909 - EC Brick & Tile

1910 - 1,778 population

1912 - hospital; Mack Webb store built

1914 - EC Rice Milling & Broussard Rice Mill merged

1926 - 40+ businesses

1927 - first public library; C of C organized

1930 - 160 businesses; 2,034 population

1930s - gas & oil discovered in county

1953 - C of C changed to C of C & Agriculture

1954 - became a home-rule city

1962 - Capital of Texas
