EL CAMPO HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING CLASS OF 1938

El Campo High School Candidates For Graduation May 23, 1938

BIGGEST CLASS IN HISTORY TO GRADUATE FROM E.C.H.S.

The El Campo High School will again graduate "the biggest class in its history" when 74 boys and girls get their diplomas next Monday night, May 23rd.

Superintendent J. E. Carrico says that there are no records farther back than 1929, the first year that K. E. Oberholtzer was superintendent, but the 1929 records show that there were 34 graduates that year. This shows more than a 100 percent increase in the number of graduates in the past nine years.

While it is hardly likely that the next nine years will show another 100 percent increase; still there is a very definite promise of growth as there are 85 juniors who are candidates for graduation next year, 95 sophomores for the following year and 123 freshmen for the year that follows that.

The Baccalaureate sermon will be held at the High School gymnasium Sunday night May 22nd at 8 P.M. Rev. A. W. DeGuire pastor the First Presbyterian Church, will preach the sermon.

The Commencement excercises will be held Monday night, May 23rd, at the High School gymnasium at 8 P.M. The Commencement address will be delivered by Dr. R. H. Montgomery professor of economics in the University of Texas.

Dr. Montgomery is an economist of national reputation and is rated as one of the most entertaining and instructive speakers in the State of Texas.

The list of six honor graduates has five girls and one boy. The Valedictorian is Marcella Naiser and the Salutatorian is Wilbert Watz. The four honor graduates are Helen Eichert, Jennie Hajovsky, Norma Nelda Andrews and Frances Vojacek. A list of candidates for graduation follows:
