Excerpt from reminises of Dixie Correll Davenport for 100 years of El Campo Schools by ECISD published 1995.

"...Graduation of course, was the big event- the goal at last achieved after eleven years of study and fun, friendship and accomplishment with some disappointments mixed in. The excitement of the moment outweighed any concern of how we ere to make our dreams of the future come true. That, and the nostalgia of the years past would come later.

For this night there would be fun: an ice cream soda or a sundae followed by a carload or two of happy teenagers driving over to Wharton and back and culminating the evening by going along with a ukulele or two and going quietly to serenade Mr. and Mrs. Ratliff, our favorite teachers. They had entered ECHS straight from college to begin their teaching career as we began our high school days, had guided us through four years with their youthful enthusiasm and encouragement, and would be leaving for new positions even as we were leaving for futures none of us could foresee."
