"1873-1973 Thames Borough Centenary" Editor L P O'Neill

· First recorded match 1870 v's Auckland. Auckland team arriving at the Tararu Wharf. Auckland Team: G Dunnett (capt), T Henderson, W H Henderson, J Marshall, A Boardman, F Whittaker, S Manning, W Proro, W Woon, W Brassey, G N Dacre, S Williams, W Wynyard.  Thames Players: T Sandes (Capt), Kidd, Gillion, D Twohill, J Ames, Fitzmorris, Walker, Lewin, Bull, Cook, Fitzpatrick, Casey, Trevarthen, W Robinson and 2 others. Result was a scoreless draw.
· 13 September 1873 first representative match played at Parawai against Auckland. Team for Thames: W Jones (Capt), R Mowbray, L Bull, R Swanson, M O'Neill, F Schofield, F Alston, T Abrahms, S Sanderson, L Shirwell. Auckland Team: F Sharland, W Woon, G Carter, H Whitaker, O Wakefield, G Baineavis, R Stitchbury, L Dunnet, A Whitaker, R Ruder.
· May 1873 The Thames Club, followed Auckland in adopting the rules of Wellington College in England
· Thames Sub-union was affiliated with Auckland until 1935 and 1937-1950. 1950 they rejoined the Thames Valley union.
· June 1884 a Miners club was formed. J Thomas Captain, A W White Secretary/Treasurer. Committee: C McLean, J Floyd, G Smith, and G Clark.
· Matches were played at Flett's Paddock at Parawai (later Dodd's Paddock. In 1899 the union transferred to the Racecourse.
· Thames United Rugby Football Club (Inc) started 1940; clubrooms built in Jellicoe Crescent 1964. The building was destroyed by fire but subsequently rebuilt. Today it is used as a gym.
· Physical Training Club Rugby Football formed 1922 By Staff Sgt W Cossgrove - training took place in the Old Drill hall in Albert Street.
· The Hui Mai Club founded in 1929, majority of players were from the "Hauraki" Team. In 1939 the club went into recess and in 1955 it was reformed.
Thames Youth Football Club formed in 1950 to provide Saturday rugby for the boys of Thames.
