and the township and range of the homestead they witnessed to. Witnesses to homestead proofs were usually neighbors to the homesteader or friends that know the homesteader's efforts. If you find a name you are interested and the listing just includes two numbers, township and range, they were a witness. They may or may not have a later homestead of their own.
