has gone to join the silent majority who sleep side by side in the Littleton cemetery, neighbors in death as they had been in life.(obit of Sarah S. (Spragg) Fulford Hayes)

It has been the hope of many here that the last resting place of the pastor and and his wife whose interests almost their entire lives, were so closely identified with those of our village and vicinity, would be the Littleton cemetery near the Pleasant Grove church and close to the parsonage where so much of their married life was passed and where their children were born. (obit of Annie E. (Hastings) Caldwell buried in Canton MS, wife of John D. Sr. mother of John D. Jr.)

Brief History

The first public cemetery in Perry Township was on land owned by John Cameron. The first burial there was the daughter of Isaac Spence in 1851. The majority of the burials from this cemetery were moved to the Littleton Cemetery circa 1856. The original section of the present Littleton cemetery was donated by Charles Melrose with two additions later added.

 Portraits and Tombstones

The cemetery has come a long way in the last couple of years due to the help of the Littleton Cemetery Association and and a few volunteers. There is still a lot yet to be done and most of the money is coming out of the pockets of the LCA officers. Donations are greatly appreciated. The Littleton Cemetery records are far from complete. I am in the process of adding to the existing records and correcting any incorrect as well as conflicting information.
