William Hogue

William Hogue Sr., 98,of Johnstown, died Wednesday, February 5 2005 at Northview Senior Living Center. Funeral service will be 9:00 AM Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Croton United Methodist Church, 75 N. High St., Croton, OH, with Pastor Wes Baker officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg, OH. 

Mr. Hogue was born September 27, 1906 in Lewisville OH to the late Isaac R. and Adda DeVoe Hogue. He farmed all of his life in the Croton area. 82 year member of Croton United Methodist Church, 65 year plus member of the Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge #9 F & AM, Mt. Vernon, active in the Licking County 4-H as an advisor, founder of Hartford Hustlers 4-H Club, on the board of directors of Central Ohio Milk Co-op, on the board of directors of Federal Land Bank, Director of Licking County Junior Livestock Association.

Survived by two sons and one daughter, William "Bill" (Barbara) Hogue Jr. of Croton. Dick (Sue Ellen) Hogue of Croton, Beverly (Eddie) Payne of Johnstown, eight grandchildren, fourteen greatgrandghildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Warner Hogue, one daughter, Bonnie Jean Hogue, and one sister, Edna Hogue Wiles.

Family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday, Feb 4th, 2005 at Crouase-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St. Johnstown. In leau of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Croton United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Ohio.

 

Mildred Lucy Leach nee Slembosky

          Services will be 2 P.M. Friday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, for Mildred Lucy Leach, 82, of Cambridge, who died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2005) at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville.    The Rev. Carol Touvell will officiate. Burial will follow in Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. Friends may call from 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.          She was born Nov. 7, 1922, in Jefferson County, daughter of the late George Slembosky and Jessie Blackhill Slembosky.           Mrs. Leach was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith.    She loved to attend the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center and play bingo at the Old Washington Fire House.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Leach; four brothers, Albert, Ed, Louie and Clarence Slembosky; and a sister, Alice Slembosky.    She leaves a daughter, Carolyn (Steve) Chandler of Navarre; two sons, Stanley Leach and John (Lynn) Leach, both of Cambridge; two sisters, Cathy DePauli and Jenny Krause, both of Akron; a brother, Mitch Slembosky of Sarahsville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.         Memorial contributions may be made to the Guernsey County Senior Center, 1022 Carlisle Ave., Cambridge Ohio 43725.

 

Francis "Bill" Hupp

Francis "Bill" Hupp, 50, 6    Terrace Drive, Ashland, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 2005, at Samaritan Hospital  Following  a short Illness. He was born Jan.19, 1955, in Barnesville, the son of Francis Henry and Alice Marie Estadt Hupp.He had been a resident of  Ashland most of his life. He was employed at F.E. Myers Co. as a molder  in the foundry department for 25 years, and he was a long time memeber of the Ashland Eagles Lodge.    He is survived by his daughter, Niki Hupp, and his mother Alice M. Hupp, both of Ashland; two sisters and one brother-in -law, Judy Ann and Larry Fraley of Mansfield, and Shirley Whyel of Ashland; one brother, James Hupp Of Ashland. His father and brother  Raymond Paul Hupp, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cassidy officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at the funeral home.The Ashland Eagles Lodge will conduct memorial services 8 p.m. Tuesday  Feb. 15, 2005 at the funeral home. (T-G 02/14/05)

 

Cynthia Winfrey nee Mullet

MONROE, Ga. - Cynthia Winfrey   , 51, Monroe, Ga., died  March 29, 2005. 

She was born Dec. 22, 1953,  in Ashland County, and was the  daughter of Thelma Highman  Mullet and Charles Mullet. 

Surviving are her husband Greg Winfrey of Monroe, Ga.; mother Thelma Mullet of Ashland; brothers Steve Mullet of

Ashland and Jeff Mullet of Jamestown Pa. Funeral Services will be 1p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Chapel of Meadows

Funeral Home with the Rev. David Foil officiating. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell Ga. Visition

will be 5 to 9 p.m. today, April 1, 2005, at Meadows Funeral Home in Monroe Ga. Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge

Rosalie Jane Cline nee Paden

WOODSFIELD - Rosalie Jane Cline, 66, 38000 Wolf Penn Road, Woodsfield and formerly of the Ashalnd Area,died 8:25 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilition Center Woodsfield.

She was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Paden City, W.Va., the daughter of Dorothy Mikes Paden of New Martinsville,W.Va. who survives and Ralph Paden. She was a homemaker and an associate of Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, and Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, Summerfield. She also was a member of Richfork Church of Christ near Woodsfield. In addition to her mother she is survived by three daughters , Lisa (Dan) Robertson of Lewisville, Joy (Bruce) Watters of Woodsfield   and Jan (Tommy)   Lemon of Holmesville;  three sisters , Barbara Probst, Joyce Wise and Linda Price, all of  New Martinsville,W.Va.; and five grandchildren.  In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Cline Jan. 25, 2004. Services took place Tuesday March 22, 2005. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield. Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield handeled the arrangements.

 

Paul V. Carpenter

           CARPENTER, Paul V., 73, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Bellaire, Ohio, died Saturday, April 23, 2005 in Columbus.

Paul was born April 27, 1931 in Monroe County, a son of the late Milroy and Victoria Carpenter.

          He was a retired employee with 30 years service at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel's Martins Ferry Plant. He was a member of South Bellaire United Methodist Church; an avid Bellaire Big Reds fan; and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann Dalrymple Carpenter in 1991; and a brother, Bernard Carpenter.

          Surviving are two sons, Paul (Beth) Carpenter Jr. of Bellaire and Ken (Suzanne) Carpenter of Columbus; a daughter, Paula (Victor) Arango of Florida; and six grandchildren, Brian Carpenter, Cody and Logan Carpenter, Jake, Alex and Alina Arango.

          Family and friends will be received Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 441 Thirty-seventh Street, Bellaire, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2005 with the Rev. James Hoff officiating. Interment in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

          Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellaire High School Athletic Foundation, 3517 Guernsey Street, Bellaire, Ohio 43906.

Lena Lee Goon nee Norris

Lena Lee Goon, 81, of Ashland died at her residence Wednesday morning, April 27,  2005, very unexpectedly. 

She was born in Woodsfield, July 31, 1923, the daughter of James F. and Clara Windland  Norris. She was a resident of Ashland most her life. Mrs. Goon was the former matron and co-superintendent of the Ashland County Children's Home and Juvenile Detention   Center for 12 years. She was a member of the 69th Infantry Division Auxiliary of the U.S. Army and a member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church.

On Jan. 24, 1942,she was married to  Clarence C." Mike" Goon, who survives her. They had been married for 63 years and four months.  She also is survived by two daughters and sons-in- law, Karen and Dan Hyatt of Ashland and Janice and Robert Curry Sr. of Middleburg Fla; and three sons and daughters- law, Larry and Norma Goon of Ashland, Michael and Lisa Goon of Mansfield and Jeff and Connie Goon of Middleburg, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her parents, three sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2005, in Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home of Ashland, with lay pastor David Lewis and the Rev. Edward O. Hale officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening May 1, 2005 at the funeral home. (T-G 04/28/05)

 

Eva Schell - nee Shipp

          Eva Schell, 96, Loveland, Colo., died Saturday (4/9/05).  Born, Firth.

          Survivors: daughters, Eldona Hughes, Loveland, Carolyn Beach, Pagosa Springs, Colo.; son, Dennis, Sterling, Alaska; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild.*  Preceded in death by husband Eldon.

          Services: 1 p.m., Friday, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Lincoln Memorial Park.  Visitation: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today, 9a.m. until services, funeral home.  Memorials:  Sierrra Vista Healthcare Center, Loveland.

Rita Ann Braverman nee Steele

Rita Ann Steele Braverman, 59, lost her battle with cancer and went to her Lord May 14, 2005.  A celebration of the life of Rita will be Thursday, May 19 at 10:30 A.M .at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Clifford  and  Helen Skillern officiating.  Following the service, a reception for family and friends will be held at the church.  Cremation has taken place. 

Beloved wife of Bernard Braverman and daughter of the late Glenn and Mabel Steele, Rita was born July 29, 1945 in Woodsfield, Ohio. Self employed in the wholesale furniture industry, Rita was president of Barrington-Steele.  As a member of Alpharetta Presbyterian church, Rita had served as a deacon, was a member of Esther Circle and was working on the interior design of the foyer in the new church building. She is survived by her husband, Bernie, two step-daughters, Cary Sparks of Mill Valley, CA and Alice Braverman Kafer, Seattle, WA; her sisters, Mrs. Norma Eells, of St. Clairsville, OH, Mrs. Glenna Joy Graham of Wooster, OH, and Jan Pember of Beaumont, TX; her brothers-in-law, Gary Graham and John Pember. 

She leaves behind two grandchildren, Bryn Sparks and Finnley Wren Kafir; five nieces, Tamara, Gina, Julie, Jodi and three nephews, Mark, Gary Glenn and Craig; three great nieces and three great nephews; numerous cousins and a host of dear friends.   A memorial service will be held July 29 in Woodsfield for her family and friends in Ohio. Her journey on earth was a blessing to all who met her. “…for nothing loved is ever lost--and she was loved so much.” (E. Brenneman)

L. Freeman Morris

Morris, Lester Freeman, 79, 42128 West Union Road, Sardis, Antioch Community, died May 13, 2005 at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. He was born near Calais, March 28, 1926, a son of Dory and Alda May Wickham Morris. He was a retired school bus driver and a protestant by faith. Surviving are three daughters, Ethel Morris and Missy Morris, both of the home, Jeannie (Tim) Rodgers, of Massillon; two sisters, Gladys Salisbury, of Sardis ; Mary Riggs, of New Matamoras; four grandchildren;  11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dora L. Belford Morris on August 28, 1995; three sisters, Beulah Crawford, Grace Henthorn, Ellen Nolen; two brothers, Clyde Morris and Chester Morris. Friends were recieved at Watters Funeral Home, May 16, where services were held May 17, with Sam Bartug officiating. Burial followed in Locust Grove Cemetery, Sardis.

 

Larry L. Lendon

Lendon, Larry L., 57, of Seville, formerly of Orrville, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2005 in Medina. He was born in Wadsworth and was a lifetime resident of Medina and Wayne Counties. Mr. Lendon was employed at Plastipak in Medina. He enjoyed antique cars and working in the outdoors. His grandchildren were the love of his life. Mr. Lendon served in the Army. 

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Corlene, of Seville; daughters , Michelle "Micky" (Matthew) Seiler, and Nichole "Niki" (fiance-Jason Ogg) Lendon, both of Orville; son, Michael of Dalton, Ohio; brothers, Bob (Linda) of Sterling and John (Judy) of Dalton, Ohio ; sister, Dorothy (Randy) Wilson of Gnadenhutten, Ohio; grandchildren, Cory and Cody Seiler, Kayla Lendon, and Austen, Colton and Nikyla Ogg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Doris Lendon; sister, Judy Rogers; and grandmother, Irene Lendon. Service: 12:30 p.m. at Armstrong-Waite Funeral Home, 25 Pleasant Street (State Route 3), Seville. Pastor James McComas will officiate. Burial : Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.  Visiting hours: 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.

James P. Carpenter

        BARNESVILLE---James P. Carpenter, 78, of Barnesville, died Saturday (May 21, 2005) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.

         He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Noble County, son of the late Calvin and Pearl (Starr) Carpenter.

         Mr. Carpenter was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired auto body repairman.

         He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, VFW Post 2792 and Batesville Legion.

         He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wes and Ellis Carpenter; and three sisters, Norma Lee Stephens, Eleanor Carpenter and Edith Stephens.

         He leaves two sons, Bruce (Donna) Carpenter of Calais and Kim Carpenter of Barnesville; a daughter, Brenda Carpenter of Canal Winchester; a brother, Lawrence Carpenter of Lebanon, Pa.; a sister, Lucille Huntsman of Barnesville; and three grandchildren.

         Friends may call from 2 to 4 Wednesday at Campbell-Plumly-Wilburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, where military services will follow at 4 P.M. under the direction of Belmont County Council of VFW. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

 

Helen L. Schell nee Cook

        Survivors:  son, Clark Schell, Lincoln; grandson, Cody Schell, Lincoln; granddaughters, Gale Hembree, Lincoln, Barb Walentine, Lincoln; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Stella Grieser, Colorado, Dorothy Schwaninger, Holdrege, Marge Cooper, Lincoln.  Preceded in death by husband Willis; daughter Phyllis; sister Irene; brothers, Weldon, Adelobert, Fred.

        Services:  11 a.m. Tuesday, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Lincoln Memorial Park.  Visitation:  noon - 7 p.m. Sunday; 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday, all at funeral home.  Memorials to American Parkinsons Disease Association.

Henry Mason Showalter

Henry Mason Showalter, 71, of Rose Hill, died May 30, 2005, at White Oak Care Facility of Oskaloosa.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, Rose Hill Community Church. Burial will be Friday, June 3, in Sunsetview Cemetery in Londonderry, Ohio, with a graveside service. Memorials may be made to either Rose Hill Community Church or Rose Hill Ruritans.
    Henry was born on Jan. 28, 1934, in Hendrysburg, Ohio. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Rose Hill Ruritans and Rose Hill Community Church.
    He is survived by three children, Artie Showalter, of Rose Hill; Jeanne Boyle, of Owensboro, Ky., and Robin Morgan of Zanesville, Ohio; two brothers, Harry and Robert, of Ohio; and four grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen Showalter, of Salesville, Ohio; and his wife, Bonnie Showalter, formerly of Rose Hill.

Henry Mason Showalter was first married to Betty Irene Lendon on August 21, 1953 and to this union were born Estelle B. Showalter and Patricia Showalter all of whom survive him.  He has 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister, Esther Showalter Borton of Salesville, Ohio.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Clara Mae Polen Showalter, and his step-mother, Helen Showalter.

 

Margaret E. Delong nee Carpenter

          SUMMERFIELD---Margaret E. Delong, 86, of the Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, formerly of Summerfield, went to join her dearest and most talked to friend, Jesus Christ her Lord and surrounded by her loved ones at 9:55 P.M. Thursday (June 16, 2005) at the nursing home.

           She was born Nov. 24, 1918, near Calais, daughter of the late Ross and Alice Hayes Carpenter.

           Mrs. Delong was a homemaker and attended Calais Church, Calais, and also First Baptist Church, Caldwell.

           She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletis Delong, on Nov. 13, 1976; a son, Sam Delong; three sisters, Melissa Carpenter, Eleanor Carpenter and Ildrith Coultas; four brothers, Raymond, Roger, Maywood and Burdette Carpenter; and a grandson, Jamey Hall.

           She leaves three daughters, Karola Housley of Caldwell, Becky Hall of Summerfield and Rhoda Carpenter of Lewisville; a son, Dan Delong of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

           Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Saturday at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, Summerfield, and from 1 to 2 P.M. Sunday at Calais Church, Calais, where services will follow at 2 P.M. Pastor Phil Golden will officiate.

           Burial will be in Calais Cemetery, Calais.

 

Huntsman, Marvin Earl
Born April 20, 1929, in Belmont, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Navy and was granted his wings on January 27, 2005, at the age of 75. Preceded in death by wife Doris and sons Robert and Garry, he is survived by sons Michael and David, five sisters, one brother, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be truly missed by family and friends. Memorial service on Tuesday, February 1. Interment private.

Gail E. Cline

Millersburg -- Gail E. Cline, 67, of Millersburg died Saturday evening, July 2, 2005, at his home following a period of declining health.  He was born April 24, 1938, in Brownsville and was the son of Gail M. and Naomi Patterson Cline. On Aug 20, 1960, he married Janet Kline, and she survives.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, was a life member of Killbuck VFW and Post Commander of the AMVETS Post 223 of Millersburg.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children and their spouses, Tony and Charlotte of Millersburg and Shelly and Steve Guzzo of Palm Harbor, Fla., seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Daryl Cline of Glenmont; and seven sisters, Kathryn Yoder of Millersburg, Madelyn Boals of Loudonville, Nancy Zurakowski of Wooster, Mary Raber of Brinkhaven, Florence Miller of Killbuck and Debbie Slonaker of Kentucky.

A son, Tim Cline and two sisters, Shirley Purdy and Evelyn Foster died previously.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Community Bible Church, County road 314, Millersburg, with the Rev. Dan DeHass officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today, July 5 2005 at Community Bible Church.  Arrangements are being completed by Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.

 

Hazel Emma Allen nee Ault

Hazel Emma Allen, 87, of Ashland passed away Monday July 4, 2005 at Crystal Care Center.  On Feb.26, 1918, in Monroe County, Mrs. Allen was born to French and Clara Suter Ault. She had been a resident of Ashland County all her life, where she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Allen was married to Chester Allen who preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Penny Allen of Naples, Fla.; one grandson; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death also by two sisters, Minnie and Anna.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7,2005, at Ashland County Memorial Park with Chaplain Gerald Gess

officiating. There will be no visitation.  Heyl Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

 

Larry Lee Highman

Larry Lee Highman, 50 of Ashland died unexpectedly at his residence.  He was born Sept. 27, 1954 in Ashland, the son of Oliver and Martha Bates Highman.  Mr. Highman was self-employed as a carpenter and in the auto repair business. He was a member of Grace Brethern Church in Ashland and he had a passion for cars.

Surviving are his mother, Martha Bates Highman of Ashland; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Shirley Watts of

Sacramento, Calif., Mary and Phil Rush of Grosse Pointe, Mich., and Martha L. Highman of Mansfield; five brothers and three sister-in-laws, Donald and Amy Highman, Bill Highman John W. and Doreen Park, Thurman (Weiner) and Sue Watkins and Oliver C. Highman II, all of Ashland;several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver C. Highman I, in 1973; a brother, George Bates, in 1987; a nephew, sean

Rush, in 2004; and his grandparents.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday July 11, 2005, at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dan Allan officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park.  Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday July 10, 2005, at the

funeral home and also one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Monday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Brethern Church, 1144 W. Main St., Ashland Ohio 44805.  (T-G 07/06/05)

Beryl L. Rogers-Green, 95, of Ashland, passed away Monday, July 18, 2005, at Crystal Care Nursing Center.  She was born in Graysville June 13, 1910, the daughter Of Oliver Clinton and Francis Delila DeVore Highman.  She resided in Ashland since 1978, and ran an antique Shop in Polk for a number of years. Mrs. Green was a Member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband , Harvey Rogers, in 1977, and her second husband, Carl Green, in 1996.

Surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St. Ashland, with Pastor Robert Pflueger officiating. Interment will be at Polk Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.           CALDWELL---Harold C. "Chan" Baker, 72, of Caldwell, died Tuesday (July 5, 2005) at Marietta Hospital, Marietta.

          He was born April 25, 1933, in Calais, son of the late Marion Elwood and Melissa Cline Baker.

          Mr. Baker was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Nelson Tree Service. He also worked for Ruble Construction and was co-owner of Harriman-Baker Timber.

          He attended Calais Church and was a member of Caldwell Moose Lodge.

          He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Baker Jr.

          He leaves his wife, Betty Lou Huntsman Baker, whom he married Jan. 19, 1957; five daughters, Debbie Kay (Aaron) Lamber of Dexter City, Brenda Lee Odgen of South Carolina, Joyce Ann Baker of North Carolina and Teresa Marie (Rick) Davis of Caldwell; three sons, William Harold (Rachel) Baker of Caldwell, Thomas Elwood (Seena) Baker of Caldwell and Kenneth Earl (Nanette) Baker of Hawaii; a sister, Jenny (Tom) LaFollette of Lewisville; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

          Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. today (Thursday) at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be 1 P.M. Friday with the Rev. William Pickenpaugh officiating.

          Burial will be in Calais Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Caldwell Post 4721 VFW and Belle Valley Legion Post 641 American Legion.

Beulah May Day nee Shackle

        Mount Vernon---Beulah May Day, 96, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday (July 6, 2005) at Country Court Nursing Home.

        She resided in her home on Harcourt Road, Mount Vernon for more than 50 years. She was born in Cambridge on Nov. 9, 1908, and lived with her parents, Frank and Estey O'Neil Shackle on a farm near Summerfield, until her marriage to Kyle Day on Dec. 21, 1929. She was the eldest of four children.

         She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Carpenter Day in 1992; a brother, Ernest Shackle; a sister, Mary Evelyn Keller; a daughter, Leatha Ann Westenbarger; twin infant daughters, Leatha's twin brother, Lee Allen; and a grandson Scott Day.

         She leaves her youngest brother, Delbert Shackle and wife Lori of Summerfield; a sister-in-law, Leora Shackle of Caldwell.

         She is also survived by two sons, Donald (Alice) Day of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Glen (Jamie) Day of Gambier; and son-in-law Tom Westenbarger of Mount Vernon.

        Mrs. Day enjoyed life that saw many changes in the world. She went from riding a horse driving buggy, to driving a car and riding in an airplane. She loved gardening and canning all the things she grew. She still was doing these things into her 90's.

        She enjoyed her grandchildren and attended all of their special actives. She went to football, basketball, and baseball games, attended school plays and band concerts. In her 90's she went flying in a small plane piloted by her son. She went on family ski trips to Colorado and Vermont and camping trips to Florida. She also visited Ireland when she was 90 years-old. She enjoyed seeing the country of her ancestors. She was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.

        She will be missed by her grandchildren, Christopher Day of Columbus, Troy and Chrissi Westenbarger of Tarlton, Tonya and Shawn Spence of Kirkland, Mark Day of Phoenix, Ariz., Paul and Bonita Day of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jody and Mark Hofer and Julie and John Mogler, all of Des Moines, Iowa, and Brent and Jean Day of Mount Vernon. She will also be missed by 12 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Dale and David Shackle, and her special friend, Jeannette Shackle.

        Friends may call from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday at North Dilley Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, where services will follow at 11 A.M. with Phillip McMurrin, pastor of the Amity United Church.  Burial will be 2 P.M. at the cemetery in Summerfield.

          WOODSFIELD - Thurman J. Christman, 92, of Jerusalem, died Thursday [Aug. 18, 2005] at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 25, 1912, in Monroe County, son of the late Lewis Christman and Anna Claus Christman. Mr. Christman was a retired farmer and a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield. He was a Monroe County commissioner for 12 years and served on the Monroe County Planning Committee, Farm Bureau Public Affairs Board, Monroe County Clinic Board, Monroe County Board of Health, Monroe County Fair Board, Malaga Township School Board, Beallsville School Board, Coop Dairy Barnesville, Belmont Electric, Buckeye Hills RC&D, St. Paul’s Church of Christ Board and was a trustee at Middle Church Cemetery.

           He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Geldmacher Christman, in

April 1998; a son, Willis Christman; a grandson, Todd Christman; two sisters; and three brothers.

           He leaves a son, Dwight Christman of Cleveland; a daughter, Alice (Gene) Burga of Salesville; three brothers, Ed Christman of Bolivar, Robert Christman of Bucyrus and Wilbert Christman of Caledonia; 11 grandchildren, Ron, Scott, Dan, Tim, Tom and Russell Burga, Crystal Black, Alycia Cloud, Steve, Vickie and Diana Christman; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Carpenter nee Hopton

           Elizabeth "Lizzie" Carpenter, 96, Beallsville, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born Aug. 21, 1908 near Woodsfield, a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Arminta Jeffers Hopton.            She was a homemaker and a retired farmer. Lizzie was a member of the East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville for almost 50 years.

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frantz, in 1990, also a brother, Homer Hopton and a sister, Nina Eberle.

           Surviving are a son, Donald (Margie) Carpenter of Dalton and a daughter, Lola (Floyd) Lucido of Beallsville; a brother, Chester Hopton of Monahans, Texas; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-

grandchildren.

           Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville, and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., at the East Sunsbury Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Cox officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the East Sunsbury Baptist Church, P.O. Thomas Earl Morris

Mansfield -  Thomas Earl Morris, 65, of Mansfield, formerly of Bellaire, died Monday, Aug. 22,2005, at Sunrise at Worthington Assisted Living Center in Worthington.

He was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Bellaire, a son of Madison and Norma Meissner Morris.  Mr. Morris, a graduate of Ohio University, retired from Columbia Gas Company, serving as a district manager with 39 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post  52 of Bellaire, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Piatt.

Surviving are two children. Maggie Ann and Hannah Elizabeth Morris, both of Worthington; and three sisters, Nancy Lowe, Judith Morris and Linda Delbert and her husband Lew, all of Bellaire.

Friends will be received 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday,  Aug. 25, 2005, at Bauknecht Funeral Homes and Crematory, 441 Thirty- Seventh St. , Bellaire, where services will take place 1 p.m. Friday, Aug 26, 2005, with the Rev. Thomas L. Jones officiating.

A brief military service will take place prior to the service in the funeral home.

Lena Louisa Pettit nee Kahrig

Lena Louisa Kahrig Pettit, age 70, lost her battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, surrounded by her husband Tom, daughter Kathy, and sister Marlene. She lived her life with grace, humor, and a genuine love for her family and friends. She died peacefully with a smile on her lips.  She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Gertrude Christman Kahrig of Lewisville, born in their Miltonsburg home on April 28, 1935. She got her beautiful red hair from her grandfather, George L. Christman. She was a graduate of Lewisville High School (Lewisville, OH), class of 1952. She said that one of the nicest memories in her life was her dad teaching her how to make shadow pictures with their hands on the bedroom wall before she fell asleep as a young girl.  She lived in Columbus, Ohio for over 40 years. She had two children: Tony and Kathy. On August 15, 1992 Lena married Thomas E. Pettit. She lived with Tom in Groveport, OH where she tended her beautiful garden and shared her flowers with her neighborhood friends.

In her lifetime, she was a waitress, carhop, retail sales clerk, seamstress, billing clerk, and Red Cross volunteer. More recently, she was an administrative assistant with First Community retirement village, retiring on July 22, 1997. After retirement, she continued to make the world a beautiful place as a Mary Kay beauty consultant. Lena will be remembered for her love of people, especially family.  She spent her life researching and documenting her family tree.  She was a member fo the Monroe County Historical Society and the Truro Historical Society, Reynoldsburg.  She authored numerous genealogy books as well as a book on Monroe County St. John's Middle Church Cemetery, near Lewisville.

She is preceded in death by her father, Alfred, who died in 1993; her mother, Gertrude, in 1995; an infant sister; brothers Raymond, Melvin, and Marion; maternal grandfather George L. Christman; maternal grandmother Magdalena Matz Christman; paternal grandfather Philip William Kahrig; and paternal grandmother Louisa Pfalzgraf Kahrig.

She is survived by her husband Tomas E. Pettit whom she married Aug. 15, 1992; children Tony Allen Gatten of Los Angeles, CA and Kathy Gatten Johnson (Jeff) of Loganville, GA; stepchildren Jennie Pettit Cherry (Tom) of Verona, NJ, Susanne Pettit Brackman of Jackson, OH, and David Pettit of Plain City, OH; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Marlene Kahrig Caldwell (Charles) of Pataskala, OH and Myrna Kahrig Morrison (Roger) of Lower Salem, OH; brother Lewis William Kahrig of Woodsfield, OH; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Friends were received at Brice United Methodist Church, 3160 Brice Road, Brice, Columbus, OH on Friday, August 26 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm.  Then friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Highway 78, Woodsfield, OH on Saturday, August 27 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm.  Funeral services were held at the Watters Funeral Home, Highway 78, Woodsfield, OH on Sunday, August 28 at 2:00 pm, followed by burial at Middle Church Cemetery. Dinner was served at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lewisville, OH following the burial.

Christman, Raymond G., 97, Barnesville, died January 23, 2003, at Barnesville Hospital. He was born near Lewisville, a son of Fred and Anna Claus Christman.  He was a member of the Lewisville United Church of Christ, retired from Landmark Feed and Supply and was a farmer.

Surviving are a son, Richard Christman and his wife, Linda, Barnesville; daughter, Mrs. Danny (Kay) Watson, Barnesville; brother, Irvin Christman and his wife, Viola, of El Paso, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Mary Eva Christman, Columbus, Zelda Betts, Lewisville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; cousins; several nieces and nephews.

Bach, Marcia Lynn, 49, 29984 TR 244, Lewisville, died Jan.25, 2003, in Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta. She was born at Tampa, Fla., June 27, 1953, a daughter of the late Walter and Helen Pilmer Harnage.    She was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth B. Bach, whom she married Oct. 30, 1970; daughter, Samantha Bach, of the home; son, Jason Bach and his wife, Cathey, Hurricane, W.Va.; brother, Danny Harnage, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Toney (Mary) Miley, of Tampa ,Fla.; Sue Boyette, New Orleans, Lousiana; several nieces and nephews; family and friends; two special angels who were there with her through her journey, Max and Janet Winland, Woodsfield.

Kirkbride, Edna R., 92, of East Marietta Street, Woodsfield, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Monroe County, daughter of the late John Truax and Lorena (Henthorn) Truax.  Mrs. Kirkbride was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac H. Kirkbride in 1978; three sisters, Mildred Gates, Wilma Kindleberger and Fern Morris; and two brothers, Everett Truax and Wayne Truax.

She leaves two sons, Marvin (Lois) Kirkbride of Woodsfield and Ronald (Shirley) Kirkbride of Jerusalem; a daughter, Mrs. Sonny (Patricia) Palmer of Woodsfield; a brother, Carl Truax of Massillon; two sisters, Ermma Jean  Baker of Jerusalem and Betty Phillips  of Apple Creek; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Corrick, Denzel D. "Squirrel", 64, Beallsville, died Jan.20, 2003, at the Belmont County Community Hospital. He was born June 4, 1938, in Coalton, W.Va., a son of the late Lawrence Denzel and Huldah Mae Kelley Corrik. He was a retired employee of PPG Industries, Cleveland and North American Coal Corporation #1 Mine at Powhatan Point, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Powhatan Point and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Wilson Corrick ; two sons, Eric Corrick and his friend Keeley Gacek, St. Clairsville; Chad Corrick, Beallsville; two grandchildren, Kourtney and Wyatt Corrick, Belmont; two sisters, Martha Corrick and Ida Bellville, both of Powhatan Point; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty and Katie Stewart; two brothers, Lawrence, Jr., and Paul Corrick.

Friends were received at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, Powhatan Point, Jan.22 and 23 until time of services at the Church of the Nazarene, Powhatan Point, with pastor Donald Lawson officiating. Burial in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 228 Powhatan Point and the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.

He was born October 6, 1945, in Cambridge, a son of the late Clarence and Mildred Dewar Ackerman. He was a former employee of Ogden Newspapers and attended the Jerusalem United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife Connie Schafer Ackerman; a son, Jerry (Stacy) Ackerman, of Barnesville; a daughter, Tammy (Brian) Clary of Somerton; a brother, Clarence (Eileen) Ackerman of Somerton; three grandchildren, Aaron Willis and Ryan Samuel Ackerman, and Jessica Renee Clary; and his mother-in-law, Lova (Don) Warrick of Barnesville. She is survived by her husband, Richard W. Addison, whom she married September  27, 1968; children, Rich (Lisa) of New Carlisle, Christine (Nicholas) Roemer of Lebanon, Cynthia Addison of New Carlisle, and Mark Addison and friend Mandy Ferrell of Troy; two grandchildren; seven sisters, Ruth Pukansky, Betty Stephens, Dorothy Coleman, Eloise Freeman, Laura Mailey, Joyce Wertz, all of Marengo, Mary Fouts of Delaware; eight brothers, Emmett Jr., Eugene, Enoch, Ernie, James, all of Marengo, Franklin, Ellet, both of Cardington, Joney of  Chesterville.

ALLEMAN, Paul, age 63, of State Route. 800, Woodsfield, Ohio, died Friday, August 19, 2005 in Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born in Monroe County Ohio on April 11, 1942, the son of Elizabeth Thomas Alleman and the late Paul K. Alleman. Paul served his country in the United States Air Force form 1962-1966; he was a retired welder for the Ormet Corporation he and his sons also owned and operated a water well drilling business.

In addition to his mother, Elizabeth Alleman of Woodsfield, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Davis Alleman of Woodsfield, Ohio; one daughter, Dedra Montgomery and her husband, Monte, of Woodsfield; two sons, Paul Nathan Alleman and his wife, Vici of Woodsfield and Virgil Alleman of Woodsfield; five grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Stephen and Shawn Pierce, Paul Kenneth Eugene (P.K.,) Toby and Elizabeth Alleman; and one sister, Betty Groves and her husband, Dean, of Woodsfield.

Friends received from 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 South Paul Street, Woodsfield, Ohio, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005 with Brent Roth officiating. Interment in the Moffett Cemetery near Woodsfield, Ohio, with Full Military graveside services conducted by the Belmont Veterans Council. On July 2, 2002 Paul underwent a lung transplant and because of this he enjoyed two and a half years of good health and quality time with his family before he became sick a few months ago. Ault, Mary Louise, 88, of Bellaire, Ohio, formerly of Lincoln Avenue, Shadyside, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Bellaire, Ohio. She was born Sept. 8, 1916 in Belmont County, a daughter of the late Guy and Goldie Schafer Noling. She was a retired teller for the former Union Savings Bank in Shadyside and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shadyside.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Ault on March 11, 1996 and her brother, Beryl Noling.

Surviving are her son, Guy G. Ault and his wife, Sisley of Shadyside. At her request, there will be no visitation.  Graveside services will be held on Friday, at 1 p.
