John W. Price

   MALONE, Fla. - John W. Price, 80, of Malone, formerly of Woodsfield, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his home in Malone after a brief illness.  He was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Woodsfield to Clarence E. and Hazel Gillispie Price. He was a past general chairman of the United Transportation Union. He was a veteran of the African and European Theaters of Operations during World War II. He was an avid golfer for more than 70 years.
   He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeannie Cline Price; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Jodi Grimm Price; one daughter, Stephanie and Nathan Shimer; six grandchildren, Kelli Price Chawla, Christian Price, Stacie McGarry Grose, Schuyler McGarry Strawser, Laura Shimer and Nik Shimer; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria Strawser, Rebecca Grose and Seth Grose.
   He was preceded in death by his parents. 

   Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield with the Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Full military graveside services will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield conducted by the Belmont Veterans Council.
   Visitation is from 2 to 4:30 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the home of Mildred Cline Fliehman on Lewisville Road, Woodsfield.

 

Beryl O. Morrison, nee Mobberly

Beryl O. Morrison, 79, of the Horn's Nursing Home, Wooster, formerly of Monroe County and Lodi, died Aug. 26, 2002, at the nursing home. She was born at Sycamore Valley, Oct. 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Amos and Olive B. Smith Mobberly.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Medina Church of Christ in Medina.

Surviving are two daughters, Martha Warner, Shirley Boreman, both of Wooster; two

sons, Phil Morrison, Florida, Lonnie Morrison and his wife, Wileen, Strongsville; two sisters, Mrs. John (June) Hester, Medina, Mrs. Rolland (Mona) Bigley, Medina; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert E. Morrison on Dec. 2, 1999; daughter, Charlene Morrison; grandson, Thomas Boreman; son-in-law, Darrell Warner.

Friends will be received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, 7 - 9 p.m., Aug. 28, where ·funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Aug. 29, with Jim Duty officiating. Burial will follow in the Creighton Ridge Cemetery, near Sycamore Valley.

 

Robert C. Grimm

   WOODSFIELD - Robert C. Grimm, 81, of Lickskillet Road died Thursday (Oct. 31, 2002) at Barnesville Hospital.  He was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Monroe County to Orlando B. Grimm and Mary Starr Grimm. He was a former employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad and was a retired employee of Montgomery Ward in Fort Wayne, Ind.  An Army veteran of World War II, he served three years in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater

   He was a Presbyterian by faith.
   He is survived by his former wife, Floi Parr Grimm and family of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Betty Paulus of Woodsfield and Helen Marsh and her husband, Dana, of Columbus; four nieces, Marilyn Paulus, Christine Boyers, Mary Ann Janes and Claudia Staley; and four nephews, Frank Paulus, Ralph Paulus, James Janes and Claude Alan Janes.

   There will be no visitation. Graveside military services will be conducted at Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 653, Lewisville Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.

 

Minnie Columbia Luburgh, nee Needs

Minnie C. Luburgh, 102, 315 Guilford Ave., Woodsfield, formerly of 107 North Paul St., Woodsfield, died Jan. 29, 2002, in the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield. She was born near Caldwell, Crum Ridge, on March 11, 1899, a daughter of the late Andrew H. and Mary Spence Needs.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ in Woodsfield.

She had enjoyed sewing and crocheting and especially enjoyed her family.

Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Camden, Woodsfield, Mrs. Charles W. (Ruby) Martin, Mrs. Edwin  (Virginia) Devore, Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Carlos Luburgh on Dec. 24, 1969; a daughter, Betty June Luburgh; son, James Richard Luburgh; five sisters, Dora Oldham, Iona Wharton, Pearl House,· Florence Luke, Fanchion Marker; brother Roy Weeds; grandson, James Wilbert Martin; great-great-grandson, Nathan Michael Norman; son-in-law, Robert G. "Bud" Camden.

Friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Feb. 1, where funeral services were held Feb. 2,with Sam Bartrug officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Nellie G. Anderson

Nellie G. Anderson, 92, Graysville, died Feb. 16, 2002, at the Woodsfield Nursing and

Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Monroe County, Aug. 15, 1909, a daughter of the late Charles Anderson and Hannah Sloan Anderson.

She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.

Surviving.are a sister, Nettie Martin, Sycamore Valley; sister-in-law, Myra Anderson, Graysville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Lila Rinard, Daisy

Weckbacher, Anna Frank, Georgia Anderson; five brothers, Ora Pinderson, Denver Anderson, Cars Anderson, Luther Anderson; an infant brother, George Hessie Anderson.

Friends were received Feb. 19 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 20, with Minister Harold Kinney officiating. Burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Graysville.

 

Frederick W. Dillon

Frederick W. Dillon, 62, Mechanicsburg Rd., Woodsfield died April 9, 2002, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born in Monroe County, July 11,1939, a son of Virginia Forester Dillon, Woodsfield, and the late Jack Dillon.

He was a timber cutter and veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Mandy Dillon Sardis; three sons, James Dillon and his wife, Tess, Memphis, TN, Michael Dillon, Chillicothe, Jack Dillon and his wife, Tammie, Wooster; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Sheila) Pittman, Mrs. Loyd, (Rachel)

Fellers, all of Sardis; brother, Larry Dillon and his wife, Vivan, Woodsfield; sister, Darla

Harmon, Graysville; 14 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.

Friends were received April 12 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held April 13, with Rev. Frank Conley officiating. Burial in Antioch Cemetery, Antioch.

 

Majorie M, Hogue, Nalley

Majorie M, Hogue, 80, 36920 SR 78, Woodsfield, died Jan. 30, 2002, at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. She was born at  Woodsfield on Feb. 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Vernon Maurice and Bertha Kinsey Nalley.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ, Woodsfield.

Surviving are; two daughters, Bonnie Rothenbuhler, Cameron, Mrs. Don (Sharon) Weber, Woodsfield; son, Gailord Hogue and his wife, Laura) Woodsfield; sister, Marveline McConnell, Columbus; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis E. Hogue on June 8,  1999; two brothers, James Nalley and Melvin Nalley; two grandsons, Jeffrey  Hogue and Jon Garrett Hogue.

Friends  were  received  at Watters .Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Feb. 1, where funeral services were held Feb. 2, with Sam Bartrug officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

 

Melvin M. Bates,

     Melvin M. Bates78, Ashland, died June 16, 2002 at Kingston of Ashland, following an extended illness. He was born May 16, 1924, in Woodsfield, the son of Adison and Edna Devore Bates.
     He had been a resident of Ashland County for most all of his life where he worked for the Highway Department for many years, and most recently retired from Hawkins Market.  He also farmed in his free time.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in WW II.
     Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann, whom he married Jan. 18, 1946; son and daughter-in-law, Emerson and Sandra Bates, Ashland; daughter, Connie, and son-in-law, Roger Kobb, Ashland; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Lyn and Wayne Russel Bates.
     Friends were received June 18 at Heyl Funeral Home, Ashland, where services will be held at 11 a.m., June 19, with Pastor Dan Bilkert officiating.  Burial will follow at Nankin Cemetery, where the Ashland County Joint Veterans Association will perform military services.

Audrey Evalee Mobberly (nee Woodard)

     Audrey Evalee Mobberly, 87, Lodi, formerly of Pleasant Grove, died June 6, 2002 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion.  She was born June 6, 1915 in Graysville, a daughter of Jay and the late Freda Victoria Gray Nalley Woodard.

    She was a homemaker all her life; was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, Graysville, Colrain Senior Citizens Center for many years, avid traveler and sports fan following Ohio State football and basketball.  She enjoyed social events and was fun to be with.

    Surviving, in addition to her father, are two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jane Mobberly, West Salem, Mrs. Charles (Sharon Kay) Robinson, Galion; four grandchildren, Robin R. Robinson, Thomas G. Robinson, Amber M. Means and Rhett E. Bainter; five great-grandchildren, Joshua T. Grieve, Cainon C. Means, Colton S. Means, Haley S. Bainter and Erica R. Bainter; Sister, June Rose Green Moss, Michigan.

    In addition to her mother who died in 1997 at 100 years of age she was preceded in death by her husband, John Milton Mobberly, whom she married Sept. 21, 1935 and died in 1981; grandson, Jeffrey S. Ray in 1983; brother Roger Green.

    Friends were received an hour prior to the service June 18 at Matteson Funeral Home, West Salem; later at the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, Graysville, with Rev. Jim Duty officiating.  Burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Graysville.

 

Grethel L. Winland

    Grethel L. Winland, 84, Woodsfield, formerly of Graysville, Died June 16, 2002 in Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield.  She was born Oct 27, 1917, in Knox County, a daughter of the late Jim and Mary Edith Dillon Smith.

    She was a homemaker and a member of the Graysville Church of Christ, Graysville.

    Surviving are five sons, Don Winland and his wife, Brenda; Roy Winland and his wife, Ila May, all of Ashland; Floyd Winland and his wife, Patsy; Walter Winland and Carl Winland and his wife Linda all of Graysville; two daughters Norma Jean Pentello, Reynoldsburg, Pamela Winland, Woodsfield; brother, Lloyd Smith; three sisters Maggie McLaughlin, Helen Patton all of Mansfield and Frances Dillon, New Philadelphia; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-graandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon "Peanut" Winland; three brothers, Bill, Bob, and Ralph Smith; granddaughter, Angela Pentello.

    Friends were received June 18 at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be held at 2 p.m., June 19, with Roy Winland and Harold Kinney Jr., officiating.  Burial will follow in the Graysville Church of Christ, Graysville.

 

Donald L. Young, 56, Pataskala, died unexpectedly March 23, 2002, at his home.  He was born in Monroe County, September 12, 1945, a son of the late Lewis and Margaret Young.

          He was a former Reynoldsburg resident for 22 years, worked for 16 years at Western Electirc/AT&T, currently employed by General Electric Super Abrasives, and served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

          Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Decker Young; three sons, Brent, Chad and Chris Young; three grandchildren, Devan, Taylor and Taygan; brother Bob and his wife, Eleanor Young; two sisters, Mrs Glen (Juanita) Stalder and Mrs. Mark (Sue) Martinka.

          Friends were received March 26 at Cotner Funeral Home, Reynoldsburg, where services will be held March 27, at 11:30 a.m.

 

Violet Maud Bott, nee Anderson

     Violet Bott, 83, Lewisville Rd., Woodsfield, died Sept. 22, 2002, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.  She was born in Monroe County, Aug. 31, 1919, a daughter of the late Albert (Al) Anderson and Lucinda Nalley Anderson

     She was the owner/operator of Violet's Beauty Shop, Woodsfield, for 65 years; a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ; member of Illdreth Rebekah Lodge # 842 Past Chief, member of Pythian Sisters Lodge of Woodsfield Past Noble Grand, and a 55 year member of Center Grange.

     Surviving are a son, John Bott, Woodsfield; brother-in-law, Ellis Bott, Marietta.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Bott, Jan. 1986

     Friends were received Sept. 25 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where service were held Sept. 26, with Harry Summers officiating.  Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.  Rebekah Lodge service was held Sept. 25 at the funeral home.

 

Hazel Marie Steele, nee Farrabee

          Hazel Marie Steele, 90, Barnesville, Formerly of Fairview and Somerton, died Feb. 2, 2002, at the Barnesville Health Care Center.  She was born Sept 11, 1911, in Beallsville, a daughter of the late Homer and Emily Weekley Farrabee.

          She was a Protestant by faith, a homemaker, mother and an avid quilter.

          Surviving are three sons, Bob and wife Sandra, Fairview, Roy and his wife Becky, Barnesville, Paul, Kimbolton; step-son, James Franklin and wife Dottie, Akron, step-daughter, Mary Belle Steele, Louisville, OH; step-daughters-in-law, Betty Steele, Orlando, FL and Peggy Steele, Cuyahoga Falls; 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Mrs. Charles (Harriett) Whiteley, Fairview.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Steele, on Oct 7, 1987, step-sons, John and Joe Steele; brother, Frank Farrabee; sister Mae Fitzgerald; grandson and great-granddaughter.

          Friends were received Feb 5 at Campbell-Plumley-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be held February 6 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Rodney West officiating.  Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, Centerville, OH

 

Nina Emaline Beardmore, nee Martin

Nina Emaline Beardmore, nee Martin, 85, 1003 Glendale Rd., Marietta, died March 27, 2002, at her home.  She was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Monroe County, to Edward and Lela Whitacre Martin.  She had lived in Marietta most of her life.

          She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Dana Class.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #59, Marietta, She enjoyed cross stitching, cooking and being around her family.

          Surviving are her son, Jeffrey Beardmore and his wife, Lynn, of Flemming; granddaughter, Sarah Beardmore, Flemming; brother Wilbert Martin and his wife, Ruby, Woodsfield; numerous nieces and nephews.

          She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Beardmore, Sept. 16, 1982, whom she married Nov. 24, 1938; daughter Karen Beardmore; two sisters, Schammie Johnson and Elizabeth Lindamore.

          Friends were received March 29 at Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, and March 30 at the First Congregational Church prior to services, with Rev. Linda Steelman officiating.  Burial in Valley Cemetery.

Delmer L. Christman

          Delmer L. Christman, 82, 1275 Marion Melmore Rd., Bucyrus, died April 13, 2002, in Hartland, of Bucyrus.  He was born May 23, 1919, in Monroe County, a son of the late Lewis E. Christman and Anna K. Claus Christman.

          He farmed until 1970 and then worked for the County Highway Department retiring in 1989.  He moved to this area in 1948.

          He was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ, former Lykens School Board member, North Robinson Equity board, the Crawford County Fair board member; served on the church board and was a 4-H advisor.  He enjoyed carpentry and especially liked making grandfather clocks and working in his yard.

          Surviving are his wife, Mary Grace Smith Christman, whom he married July 3, 1943; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Mary Jane) Bays, of Sycamore, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Gearhart, rural Bucyrus, Annabelle Horning, Mansfield; three granddaughters, Malynne Keiter and Tony Barker, Mrs. Todd (Betty Jo) Billings, Jody Horning; step-grandchild; great-grandson, Harley Barker; two step-great grandchildren; four brothers, Thurman Christman, Woodsfield, Robert Christman, Bucyrus, Wilbur Christman, Caledona, Edward Christman, Bolivar; brother-in-law, Charence Smith, Monroe County.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Keiter; two brothers, Lawrence and Earnest christman; two sisters, Celesta Welty and Louse Bower.

          Friends will be received April 17 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. , at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus, with Rev. John Miller and Rev. Karla Frost officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

          Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Relay for Life through the funeral home.

 

Barbara Ann Smith

          Barbara A. Smith, 72, West Maple Ave., Geneva Twp. died Feb. 28, 2002, at her home.  She was born Nov. 20, 19929, in Willoughby, a daughter of the late Keston and Stella Weber Wahl Brigham.  She had lived in Geneva Twp. for the past three years, previously living 30 years on River Glen Drive, Austinburg Twp.

          She was a graduate of Rock Creek High School.

          Surviving are two daughters, Dianna M. Patterson, Jackson Center, Pa., S. Barbara Schultz, Geneva; three grandchildren, Dalynne Sanborn, and Eric and Scott Schultz; two great-grand-children; three brothers, Corliss H. "Cork" Brigham, Eagleville, Roy C. Brighham, Portsmouth, N.H. and John C. Brigham, Eliot, Main; sister, Carrol J. Gildersleeve, Austinburg Twp.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Laverne 'Pete' Smith. Lewisville, in 1998 whom she married April 30, 1949 in Woodsfield; three brothers, Keston, Jr., Elmer and Linn Brigham; tow sisters, Velda Grandbouche, Lois Timms.

          Services were held March 4 at Fleming Funeral Home, Jefferson, with Rev. Bill McMinn of Eaglesville Bible Church officiating.  Burial in Eagleville Cemetery.

Robert Edwin Devore

          Robert Edwin Devore, 77, died Aug. 28, 2002.  He was a native of Graysville and was a resident of Jacksonville, Fla., for 43 years.

          He served in the U.S. Army during WW II with Company E 180th Infantry Regiment 45th Division Co.  He was employed by F.E. Myers Co. for 41 years, having managed the Jacksonville warehouse.

          Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Virginia Luburgh Devore; son, Steve Devore (Candy); three daughters, Mrs. Rob (Carol) Cox, Mrs. Conrad (Pam) Edwards, Mrs. Paul (Jill) Horwath; five grandchildren; Patrick and Michael Cox, Nathan and Chelsea Edward, Paul Horwath Jr.; four great grandchildren, Ethan and Andrew Cox, and April and Harley Horwath; sister Mrs. Larry (Ruth) Mackey; several nieces and nephews.

          He was preceded in death by his parents, George N. and Phyllis A. Devore; brother, George N. Devore, Jr.

          Friends are received Aug. 30 at Hardage-Gliddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Fla., where funeral services were held Aug. 31.

Emma Jordan, nee Stanforth

          Emma S. Jordan, 94, died Sept. 12, 2002, at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield.  She died as a result of complications from a fall in her apartment at Monroe Manor on Aug. 21.

          She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Gordan; six brothers; two sisters.

          After living in Fort Worth, Texas, for 41 years, she returned to Ohio in 1983, to live with her sister, Lucille Traylor, at 211 Eastern Ave.  After Lucille's death in 1986, Emma continued to live on Eastern Avenue where many local residents will remember her as the "lady with the hat" whom they saw many, many mornings working in her yard, tending it loveingly, and keeping it "swept clean".

          After recuperating from a broken hip sustained in a fall in April, 2000, she lived at the Monroe Manor Apartments.

          "Auntie Em", as I, Barbara Traylor Young, called her all my life, believed with her whole heart in Jesus Christ and the "Good News" which He brought to all of mankind.  She attempted in every way she knew how, to spread the Gospel to everyone she met and to countless people around the world through her participation in the World Radio, Herald of Truth, World Christian Broadcasting, and In Search of the Lord's Way ministries.

          She worshipped at the Goudy Church of Christ but considered herself a member of the body of Christ whereever it met.

          "Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints, " Psalm 116:15.

          Funeral services were held Sept. 15 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, with Paul Eddy officiating.  Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

 

Lewis Harlan Hines

          Lewis Harlan Hines, 74, Park Hill Rd., Corbin, KY, died Jan. 22, 2002 at Baptist Regional Medical Center, He was born Nov. 21, 1927 at Graysville, a son of the late James Henry and Freda L. Hartshorn Hines.

          He was a member of the Brummett Church of Christ.  He was a retired press operator with National Cash Register Company having worked there for 40 years.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

          Surviving are his wife, Mary Weddle Hines, Corbin, whom he married Aug. 5, 1955; son, Steven Lewis Hines, Corbin; two daughters, Gena F. Hines and Mrs. Brian (Sheia R. Hines) Baylor, all of Corbin; three brothers, Crawford Hines, Graysville, Marlin Hines, Canton, Carl Hines, Westerville; five grandchildren, Natalie Hines, Abby Baylor, Evan Baylor, Skyler Hines, Meggie Hines

William (Bill) Jacob Weber

          William J. "Bill" Weber, Brooksville, FL. Died Jan 17 at Brooksville Hospice Center.  He was born June 20, 1920, in Lewisville, the son of William J. and Gertrude C Weber and grandson of the only village doctor in Lewisville.

          He was the owner and founder of the lighted house number which graces more than 300 homes in Brooksville and 15 states plus Canada.  As a young man, he was sent off to fight for his country during WW II.  He was assigned to the 65th Infantry Division of Patton's 3rd Army in Germany.  During his two year service to his country, Bill earned many medals including the Bronze Star, The Army Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European Medal with two battle Stars, the WW II Occupation Medal German Bar.  He was an expert rifleman.

          Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Catherine; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Wittman, Raytown, MO, Mrs. Cotton (Bonnie) Stamford, Spring, Texas; two Granddaughters, Linda, Kansas City, MO, Angel Rychlik, Houston, Texas; great granddaughter, Jessica, Kansas City; two grandsons, Curtis and Matthew Samford, The Woodslands, Texas; three great-grandsons, Cody, Ty and Evan, The Woodslands.

          He was preceded in death by a son, William Junior; seven brothers and sisters.

          A celebration of Bill's life was held on Jan. 24 for friends and loved ones.  Burial was in Florida National Cemetery.

 

Hobart G. Blair

Hobart G. Blair, 72, 30516 CR 16B, Lower Salem, died December 28, 2002, in Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta.  He was born Feb. 19, 1930 at Lebanon, a son of the late Elza E. and Myrtle Christina Nalley Blair.

          He was a retired farmer and a member of the Creighton Ridge Church of Christ, near Sycamore Valley.  He enjoyed old time music and playing the banjo.

          Surviving are his wife Dorothy Guiler Blair, whom he married Nov. 13, 1965; son, Ronald G Blair and his wife Valerie, Lower Salem; sister Ona Dennis, Wingett Run; grandson, Andrew Blair, Lower Salem; several nieces and nephews.

          Friends were received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Dec. 30.  Friends then received at the Creighton Ridge Church of Christ Building near Sycamore Valley, Dec. 31, until time of services, with Vernon Crum and Kent Parks officiating.  Burial followed in Creighton Ridge Cemetery, near Sycamore Valley.

 

Lude, Wilber Henry Lude

  Moundsville, W. Va. - Wilber H. Lude, 85, of Elm Avenue died Sunday (July 28, 2002) at the Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center in Wheeling, W. Va.

  He was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Antioch, to Clarence C.[Chris] and Clara E. [Elizabeth] Hoff Lude. He was retired from the former Allied Chemical Corp. He was a member of McMechen Church of Christ, served on the Moundsville Council and was a former mayor of Moundsville. [Note: His mother's name was Clara, not Clare]

  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys L. Jackson Lude of Moundsville; two sons, Don Lude and his wife, Suzy, of Indiana and Roger Lude and his wife, Shirley, of Syracuse, Ohio; four daughters, Garnet Blake and her husband, Lonnie, of New Martinsville, W. Va., Connie Martin and her husband, Charles, of Moundsville, Cathy Ramsey and her husband, Martin, of Powhatan Point and Sandra Ferrie and her husband, Albert, of Cleveland; two sisters, Florence Lallathin and her husband, Ralph, of Antioch and N. Ruth Sampson of Bethleham, W. Va.; one brother, Clarence P. Lude of Woodsfield; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

  Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Evangelist Bill Carroll officiating. Burial is in West Union Cemetery near Sardis. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Harry L. Huntsman

Harry L. (Dyner) Huntsman Sr., 71, of Barnesville, died Saturday at his home; nov. 16, 2002. He was born feb. 14, 1931 in Woodsfield.

Dyner served in the marine corps, and was a member of the VFW Post 2792,  American Legion Post 168; loom and F.O.E.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Huntsman; two brothers; a sister and two great-grandsons.

Surviving are his mother, Edna Huntsman  of St. Clairsville; two sons, Butch Huntsman and his wife Dana of Barnesville and Alan and his wife Debbie of Bethesda; three daughters, Mrs. (Sharon) Buzzard of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Earl (Diane) Showalter and Kathy Huntsman, both of Barnesville; two brothers, Marvin Huntsman of California and Joe (Sonny) Huntsman of Georgia; five sisters, Sylvia Spencer of Toronto, Betty Baker of Caldwell, Edna Lucas of Bethesda, Thelma Hicks of Texas and Janet Rock of Toronto, Oh.19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

Friends were received Tuesday at Campbell -Plumly Funeral Home; 319 N. Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio where services will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday. Burial follows in Crestview Cemetery Barnesville.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Belmont County Council of the VFW.

 

Francis O."Jack" Matson, Jr. (August 10,1943 - March 28, 2002)

A funeral service for Francis O. "Jack" Matson, Jr., 58, of Buckeye Lake, will be held at 7p.m. today at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel with pastor Bob Perdue officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Matson died March 28, 2002, at Selma Markowitz Hospice care center. He was born Aug.10, 1943, in Troy, to the late Francis O. Matson Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Wilson) Hosmer.

Mr. Matson worked at Diebold, Inc. For 28 years.  He served in the navy in the 1960's, and was a member of the CWA-AFL-CIO local #84710.

Mr. Matson is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty I. (Lendon) Matson of Buckeye Lake, whom he married August 9, 1973; second mother, Lorene (Williams) Matson of Newark; daughters Janet Lynn Matson of Clearwater, Fla., Estelle Belle Booth  of Buckeye Lake, Patricia Irene Showalter of Hanover and Rita Renee Dolan of Newark; sons Jonathan Douglas Matson of Hilliard, Jason Alan Matson of Dayton, James Francis Hall Matson , James Mansel Kurtz Jr. of Buckeye Lake, Jerome Michael Kurtz of Delaware, and Jeffrey Manuel Kurtz of Delaware; sisters Janot Arlene Fitch of Louisa, KY, Lois Jean Derr of Bradford, Sandra Jo Wright of Newark and Rosemary Mees of Sidney; brothers , David C. Matson of Corpus Christi, Texas, John Hosmer of Pemberton and Chris Johnson of Dayton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Matson.

Rodney D. Wheeler

Rodney D. Wheeler, 45, of Bethesda, died Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2002) in Columbus.  He was born May 22, 1957, in Alliance, son of Mrs. Cliff (Sylvia) Huntsman Spencer and the late Samuel H. Wheeler.  Mr. Wheeler was an employee of Seminole Tubular in Cambridge and was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley and Laura Wheeler and Earl Huntsman.

He leaves his loving wife, Jennifer (Sampson) Wheeler, a son Bradley Wheeler of the home; two sisters, Amy and Stephanie of the home; two brothers, David Wheeler of Bethesda and Samuel W. Wheeler of north Carolina; and his grandmother Edna Huntsman of St. Clairsville.

Calling hours were held Saturday.  Services were held Sunday at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, Barnesville. Burial followed in Crestview cemetery, Barnesville.  Memorial contributions may be made to Quaker City volunteer fire department.

 

Grace L. Henthorn nee Morris

Grace L. Henthorn, 79, TH.512, Sardis,died Jan.30,2002, at her home. She was born in Belmont County,April 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Dory Morris and Luetta Wickham Morris.  She was a member of the Brownsville Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Lloyd Henthorn, Sardis, whom she married 55 years ago: son Paul Henthorn, Sardis: four daughters, Sara Huff, Hayesville, Millie Haney, Sardis, Marlene Terwilliger, Woodsfield, Shirley McCaslin, Woodsfield; two brothers, Freeman Morris, Sardis, Chester Morris, Oklahoma: four sisters, Beulah Crawford, Summerfield, Gladys Salisbury, Sardis, Mary Riggs, New Matamoras, Ellen Nolan, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;1 great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by a brother, Clyde Morris.

Carl R. Lendon

Carl R. Lendon, 54, of 50865 Church Street, Malaga, Ohio, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at his home. He was born June 24, 1948 in Lewisville, Ohio, son of the late Leonard and Estelle (Morris) Lendon.

Carl was a devoted husband and father, a retired electrician for Ormet Rolling Mill, a member of Trinity Church of Christ in Lewisville, Ohio, an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and a member of Beallsville Masonic Lodge #362 F&AM.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother -- Leonard Lendon, Jr. And a half sister--Mary Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife – Faye (Caldwell) Lendon; a son Zachary Lendon of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter -- Erica Lendon of the home; a half brother - Larry Schaub of Lewisville, Ohio; 4 sisters - Elsie Bonam of Wooster ,Ohio, Cora Blackstone of Lewisville, Ohio, Betty Matson of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, and Frances Lendon of Ashland, Ohio; and 2 half sisters--Bonnie Eichhorn of Arizona and Alvaretta Luyster of Buckeye Lake, Ohio.

He was an Army veteran of World War II; a retired truck driver for M&K and Pomco; a member of Assumption Catholic Church, K of C and VFW Post 2792.Preceded by wife, Helen Marie (Schafer) Kuhn; and brothers, Herman, Mike, Ted and Earl.

Surviving are a son, Paul Kuhn of Barnesville; daughter, Mrs. Richard (Rita) Hall of Barnesville; brothers, John and Bernard Kuhn of Zanesville; sisters, Mrs. Gilbert (Mary) Bowman of Zanesville and Laura Harrell of Fitzgerald, Ga.; grandchildren, Rusty Hall and wife Laura of Chicago and Rachael Weis and husband Brian of Powell, Ohio.; and a great-grandchild, Vanessa Renee Weis.

Eileen Ludwig Kremer

Beallsville – Eileen Ludwig Kremer, 73, of 41385 North Park Drive died at 3:15 p.m. Friday (April 5, 2002) in Barnesville Hospital at Barnesville.  She was born Nov. 25, 1928, at Woodsfield to Gilbert and Oneda Christman Ludwig.

She is survived by her husband, George Kremer, whom she married on Dec. 28, 1946; two daughters, Linda Pratt of Waddy, Ky., and Patricia Kay of Middletown, Ohio; two sons, Jeffrey Kremer of Alpharetta, Ga., and G. Andrew Kremer of Miami, Fla.; one sister, Myra McGuire of Mason, Ohio; one half brother, Elwood Hossman of Newport; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Philip E. Ludwig.  There will be no visitation.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Oaklawn Cemetery
